Friends of Renacer (FoR) is an ecumenical 501c3 ministry formed in 2002 to support Hogar de Niños Renacer, a children’s home in Honduras. We became a Federally approved 501c3 in 2010. We are a volunteer organization with very little cost—small administrative overhead to transfer and manage funds for the scholarship. Our minutes and financial statements are available upon request.
We are a ministry of presence in that we visit the children and their caretakers every year. Our primary motive is to uplift and encourage the children and support staff. We have taken approximately 150 volunteers over the almost two decades we have been engaged with Hogar de Niños Renacer. FoR also provides financial support for special projects and for our vocational and university scholarship funds.
Our most ambitious project is the scholarship fund. We have on average ten young people utilizing the funds for vocational training and university stipends. (See scholarship page for parameters). Total annual cost has been running between $16,000 and $20,000.
We also use donations to provide for prescriptions, psychological testing and support, salary support for mission staff, a lunch money fund for children attending high school near Tegucigalpa, and sometimes building projects. We also cover special projects when our teams are on the ground.
FoR utilizes a steering committee for managing expenses and coordinating with Hogar de Niños Renacer and Brigadas de Amor Cristiano (the umbrella organization located in Tegucigalpa). The steering committee meets once a year and as needs present themselves.
